What are Lash Extensions and what is all the fuss about?

Eyelash extensions are a cosmetic make up application used to enhance the length, curl, fullness, and thickness of natural eyelashes. The extensions may be made from several materials including mink, silk, synthetic, human or horsehair. The main method of applying the extensions is by using a cyanoacrylate adhesive to apply the extension(s) to the natural lash 0.5-1mm from the base of the natural eyelash, never making contact with the eyelid.

The best extensions are bespoke!

Before your Eyelash Extension treatment, you should have a consultation, where the lash technician will indicate what type of length, curl and style is the best for your face and eye shape.

What are the most popular Eyelash Extensions Styles?

Doll eye- if you have hooded or small eyes, the best style for you will be doll eye-the longest part of the eyelash extensions will be in the middle of your eye, creating the illusion of an open, refreshed eye.

Cat eye- if your eyes are closed to each other or you have big eyes the best style for you is Cat eye-the longest eyelash extensions will be at the outer corner of the eye, giving the illusion of distance between the eyes.

Natural- if your eyes are almond shape, you are the lucky one! Any style will work on you! Recommendation will be a natural style-you apply the longest eyelash extensions where you have the longest natural lashes.

What length should my eyelash extensions be?

Like any other type of extensions, hair, nails etc, we must take in consideration the length of our natural lashes. To avoid damage to the natural lashes, your eyelash extensions should be maximum 2mm longer than your natural lashes.

How often should I have my Lash Extensions done?

Eyelash extensions is a treatment that can cause addiction due to its benefits: no more panda eyes, looking great and awake every moment of the day.

This being said, you can have lash extensions whenever you like, with few exceptions:

-if you are wearing strip lashes, cluster lashes or waterproof mascara

-you should stop using any of this 2 weeks before your lash appointment, so your natural lashes can recover.

Lash Infill-how often should be do the eyelash extensions maintenance?

If you would like to have Eyelash Extensions more than once, you would have to keep up with your infills every 2-3 weeks, depending on how fast is your metabolism. The natural lashes grow on average 3-8 mm/month.

A lash infill means that all the outgrown lashes will be removed, using a so-called banana peel method-your extensions are peeled of your natural lashes and new eyelash extensions will be applied.

Most eyelash extensions technicians will require a 50% of eyelash extensions still on from the previous appointment for an infill to be done. Less that 50% on, will lead to a NEW SET of Eyelash Extensions.

Exceeding 3weeks will result in an overgrowth of your natural lashes that will lead to a removal of your prior eyelash extensions and a new set will be applied.

How should I prepare for Lash Infills?

The best way will be to keep your eyelash extensions clean from any make-up build up oils or any extra strip lashes added on top of the Eyelash Extensions.

Resist the urge to pick your lashes-if your natural lashes are outgrown and they start to bother you, book an infill appointment asap, do not pull your natural lashes out!

When cleaning your Eyelash Extensions you should be using a Lash Shampoo and a soft brush, lint free. Try to avoid any cotton around the lashes as this may lead at your natural lashes being pulled out or small pieces of lint attached to the lash extensions.

This being said, eyelash extensions are a easy way to look good at work, home, holidays, day or night.

The maintenance is minimal as long as you follow the most important steps:

-clean your lashes every day after the first 24h

-do not sleep on your face

-book your infills every 2-3weeks.
